3D VISUALIZATION OF DESIGN MODELS

Using the most advanced headset technologies, the Meta Quest and Microsoft HoloLens, BIM Holoview transports users into the reality of their design as it blends perfectly with the physical environment.

Imagine if you could walk around the inside of a house or building before it's built. Check the spatial dynamics of a factory fit-out or hospital operating theatre. Or, verify the precise location of technical installations during and post-build.

BIM Holoview provides architects, engineers, construction professionals and property developers the most advanced tool for visualizing design concepts, spatial dynamics and structure within the actual physical environment.

How are CAD and BIM models viewed in Mixed Reality?

Because Mixed Reality (MR) allows users to interact with virtual elements like they would in the real world, it provides the most realistic experience of a design as it will be built. Developed for the AEC industry, BIM Holoview enables digital objects created in commonly used CAD and BIM applications (Autodesk 3D Revit® and Navisworks®) to be viewed using either the Meta Quest or the Microsoft HoloLens headsets.

Models are converted into HoloLens and Quest viewable assets through easy-to-use plugins. They can be presented table-top for demos and discussions, and within their intended environment as full fidelity 1:1 scale holographic images for accurate visual verification of design concepts, structural elements, services and fit-out plans.

BIM Holoview integrates device specific features such as hand tracking, interactive UI elements and spatial understanding to provide a fully intuitive experience. We have solved the problem of model drift by using World Locking and QR Code model alignment. Placement on-site is simple and models can consistently be aligned to within 1cm (1/2 inch) over large distances, giving users the confidence that their model is positioned with precision.

A visual experience unrivalled by traditional VR tools

Being able to interact with a virtual 3D design blended into its intended physical environment provides a truly accurate representation of scale, depth, and spatial awareness that traditional VR and AR tools cannot provide. MR provides a deeper, more comprehensive understanding of the dynamics and structure of any given building, and clearly shows the impact of the building on its surroundings.

The Quest and HoloLens MR headsets are game-changing technology for the AEC industry. From houses to complete multi-building production facilities, BIM Holoview on these headsets will not only reduce construction costs but can also give your business a competitive edge.

The key advantages of MR technology over traditional VR/AR are:

  • MR provides an immediate understanding of designs, and how proposed construction interacts with existing structures and terrain. It facilitates clear communication throughout the project from concept to completion for everyone involved.
  • Users have untethered movement allowing them to fully explore their 3D space, emulating how they will use their space once building is complete. This immersive, interactive MR experience invokes the closest sensations to those which come from actually being in the physical structure.
  • Access in real-time to accurate BIM data ensures precision in construction and certainty in decision-making. Project delays, variations, rework, and budget overruns can be avoided.
  • Both the Quest and HoloLens headsets are comfortable, and offer a natural way to understand 3D building plans without discomfort.

Communicate the vision

By translating technical drawings into an MR experience, the design concept and elements are clearly communicated, and well understood by the project team and stakeholders.

Opportunities open up for attracting prospects, gaining stakeholder buy-in and marketing your vision through an immersive, interactive experience.

Bringing to life otherwise difficult to imagine qualities such as how a window captures a special view or the impact of a building on the surrounding environment, prevents detrimental surprises and expensive alterations. Instead, confidence in the design and positive reactions in stakeholders are invoked as they experience a true sense of how occupying a space will feel and function.

Ultimately, it delivers a better result and more positive experience.

Verify design details and constructability

BIM Holoview facilitates keeping the project on budget and those invested in its success, pleased with the outcome.

Perfecting the design before construction begins by visualizing different variables or modifications minimizes the cost of changes during construction. Rework, delays and cost overruns are avoided by identifying constructability and sequencing issues early. Accurate real time information and virtual measurement supports reviews and compliance inspections.

Where spatial dynamics are critical such as in hospitals or factory floors, functionality can be optimized by trialling virtual layouts.

Fundamentally, BIM Holoview empowers users to make design and construction decisions with greater certainty, and to identify and mitigate risks before costly mistakes occur.

BIM Holoview can be used for all sizes and complexities of building projects. Houses, bridges, roads, hotels, hospitals, factories, refineries…

BIM Holoview on the Quest or HoloLens provides value to anyone across the AEC industry who themselves value innovation, communication and certainty for their customers. It’s use ranges from visualizing high-end houses to complete production facilities. Its benefits range from stakeholder engagement to avoiding significant cost overruns.

An example of where BIM Holoview adds value to healthcare is in validating the constructability and usability of crucial specialty spaces by allowing all team members (designers, contractors and medical staff) to experience the design and make changes to optimize the layout of furniture, medical equipment, and technical installations. Similarly, verifying the functionality of space for equipment and operations in a car manufacturing plant assists more efficient production. For complex public works projects firms use BIM Holoview to help with marketing and tender processes because it improves the ability of stakeholders to comprehend large-scale projects.

And on a smaller scale but one that is very personal to clients, architects and builders use BIM Holoview to present house and commercial designs onsite so clients and stakeholders can experience how it will feel to occupy their building once it is built.
